create every day (mobile post)

What’s a promise you made to yourself that you’ve actually kept?

It’s a lovely rainy Saturday, perfect for a cup of tea and time with my art supplies.

Over the past few days, I have found around 50 circa 1990s professional grade colored pencils hidden away here and there. Not sure what my past self was thinking, but it seems to be that creative tools are all around us.

Creating every day has always been part of my life, except when it was impossible to do so. Since February of this year (2026), things are back as they should be, allowing me the time and resources to be creative.

Somewhere in there was the goal to write everyday for 16 weeks, even if was just a sentence or a passing thought. Then…I thought it would be fun to return to writing online, so I set a goal for that as well.

There more in this idea of doing small things you love everyday, and other tales…but the beauty of the day is pulling me outside, so I must go.

Until next time

dinner with Hildegard of Bingen

From Wikipedia

“We cannot live in a world that is interpreted for us by others. An interpreted world is not a hope. Part of the terror is to take back our own listening. To use our own voice. To see our own light.” ― Hildegard of Bingen

There is not enough time in my morning to write about all the reasons why I simply adore Hildegard of Bingen, so I’m going to put up some bullet points.

  • She is one of the few Doctors of the Catholic Church
  • She transcended roles for women
  • She understood frequencies – using them in her compositions
  • She defied the Church to give someone a burial
  • Herbs – I mean, that is enough right there
  • She did not give up on her creativity

That’s only a dusting of the reasons.

Now, if I could invite a second guest, it would be Mother Jones.

There is so much more I want to write – it’s been that way all week. However, when one has a chance to do a deep clean on a beautiful day in July after receiving a new roof that was much needed (even though it interrupted my work), it is absolutely imperative they take it.

With that, I’m off to clean!

second hand thoughts can bring what you need

Setting a goal to write everyday makes for some interesting conversations within one’s own noggin. The weather is absolutely beautiful today, and I would love to sit on the porch while watching the birds fly around – however…we are getting some much needed roof repairs done today. So very grateful for the ability to keep our home safe, but at the same time all I can think of is Fixing A Hole by The Beatles. It’s get out my pencils to sketch, and here comes the opening line, “I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in, and stops my mind from wandering…where it will goooooo.”

On days like today I wander into the online spaces where previous writers I love have shared tips on writing. You know, quotes and things. Here are some for today that really inspired me to sit in my chair to write.

“A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.”Thomas Mann
“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”Ernest Hemingway
“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”Ray Bradbury

Until the roof is finished, it might be good to find a quiet spot and write some haiku.

As far as today’s WP prompt – the best purchase I have ever made is reclaiming my time.

leaving the socials – and the apps (part 1)

Article about internet coming to the WKU campus

“He’d lived for so long on a constant edge of anxiety that he’d almost forgotten what real fear was.”
― William Gibson, Neuromancer

That’s me in bold up there, talking about “Internet” before the addition of “the.” By that time I’d already learned how to befuddle workers at Radio Shack with my awesome skills with Basic. My first connection to a greater digital world came in the 1980s when my family purchased a rotary phone modem. I’d wait for my ASCII art to download while watching Friday Night Videos, or some black and white show that was just there for background sound.

Let’s just say that I’ve been wired for well over 40 years.

This, my friends, is a story in many parts – so feel free to come back tomorrow for more of the story.

Until next time,

in search of interesting prompts

“Our boundaries define our personal space – and we need to be sovereign there in order to be able to step into our full power and potential.”
–Jessica Moore

Stepping out of my comfort zone a bit today, but it feels important to do so.

For far too long in my adult life I allowed myself to get caught up in things that never should have been my business. Now I know the how and why of those events, but as a I lean more in to my Crone years – dreaming of a house with chicken legs that runs into the forest – it’s clear that boundaries are your friend.

But yeah, let’s talk a little bit about boundaries and why they are important. All ya gotta do is visit The Google and type in “boundaries with others” to see that it’s an SEO goldmine search. And while it might seem that I’m writing about boundaries for that reason – it’s more like my version of putting my words into the greater internet for everyone to understand clearly.

Mostly, though, this is for me. When I look back at this post some day in the future, I’ll know that the steps I took to honor my space were well worth it.

Now, about these prompts…

It is great to interact with what WP puts on their dashboard, but my goal is to learn the ins and outs of the people I follow – and those who follow me. When I left the social media world, it was to get back to the days of long form writing without AI created content. You know, like when folks wrote short stories about their lives, shared their works in progress without a hashtag, and talked about spirituality without pointing fingers.

Maybe I’m just a Pollyanna, or am waxing nostalgic for a past that only I experienced. Whatever I might be, my soul hopes that we can start remembering how everything is connected, and that kindness goes further than finger pointing.

It’s just a rambling kind of day, which is also full of things that need to be done — so maybe it’s time for me to step away from the screen for a bit.

Y’all stay awesome, and know that you are loved just the way you are.

Oh, and to answer the prompt – the book that made me want to travel was the LOTR series.
