“We are all strangers in a strange land, longing for home, but not quite knowing what or where home is. We glimpse it sometimes in our dreams, or as we turn a corner, and suddenly there is a strange, sweet familiarity that vanishes almost as soon as it comes.”
― Madeleine L’Engle
Y’all…lemme tell you about how to heal in 7 days…well, maybe not 7 days, but still…it’s been an interesting week that is gonna kinda round out into a 9 day personal retreat that I didn’t even leave the house to attend. Let me just say that it is both a gift and a sadness to look through old photographs.
Even with the advent of pocket cameras, print photography was not always a luxury that folks in the past could afford. Sometimes families would save up all year to have a photo made when photographers came to their town. You might think that was way back in ye olden days, but it was still happening in rural parts of the United States way into the 1990s. Sometimes the only photos folks could afford were the ones taken for a church bulletin, or in a school setting. I guess the feeling I’m trying to convey here is this – when you find a box you absentmindedly stashed away like almost 20 years ago it’s a good idea to be prepared for what you find.
Honestly it was like I left little oracle notes in a box knowing that in July of 2026 I would open it to find that all the things I thought were lost in my life just needed to resurface at a time when everything felt a little wobbly. As if somewhere within me I thought, “Yeah, I’m gonna need to look through all these pieces of my history to remember that life is for living.”
Honestly…y’all I was a little overwhelmed by it all, making it hard to do any kind of cohesive writing. Nevertheless I persisted, and showed up everyday to share something here – the place where it all began oh so many years ago. I guess it’s sort of like coming home.
I’m very grateful to have this space, and thankful for all y’all who stop by.
Until next time,
~ Kimbo
